What the hell is that?

Every spring these plants in my yard do this weird, alien-growing-out-of-it thing that's quite freaky. Check this out!












So weird! Now check out my new agave, named Jeffrey, that I got from Sister and BIL as a graduation present. Or was it a birthday present? I forget, but I got it as a present from them!



All my agaves are named after my BIL. I'll post pictures of Stuart and Bassett another time.

Since my horticultural credentials are forgeries, I am not 100% certain of what follows, but...
those erections are the way "Century Plants" and their close relatives flower. That's the good news. The bad news is that, when the flowering is finished, the plants wither and die. I hope I'm mistaken. Try Googling them. Dad

Several months ago, that became the only way to leave a comment without going to the trouble of opening a Blogspot account. But now that you mention it, I notice that a Google account will now serve the purpose too. So...
