Guaymas

Tomorrow at the crack of dawn, Mentor Teacher, her son, and I leave for Guaymas, Mexico to spend a few days at the beach. Guaymas is a straight-ish shot from here: Chandler to Tucson, on to Nogales (where we'll make a quick stop), south to Hermosillo, then even further south to Guaymas. Her father lives there, close to the beach, and we'll be staying with him. Yay! Beach! It's my last hoorah (hurrah?) before work starts on July 28.

Speaking of work, Mentor Teacher and I spent about 8 hours in our classrooms yesterday arranging and rearranging furniture - it's difficult setting up a working room with flow, space for all the students that includes their tables, a place for the class library, a place for the instructional assistant, the file cabinets, my desk, and enough wall space for bulletin boards, among other things - unpacking boxes, etc. We're going back today to unpack more boxes...

I tried getting my phone mounted on the wall, but it's missing a doohickey that keeps the receiver from falling off. The custodian, Pancho, went to all the other rooms looking for a phone with a doohickey but found none. Unbelievably, it's practically impossible to get another phone. And if they did get me one, it would come out of my class "warehouse budget." That's the paltry sum they give all the teachers to stock their rooms. I'm not sure what a doohickey costs, but I'm pretty sure the money is better spent on paper and other supplies.

And speaking of costs and other supplies, feel free to send money. I'll give you a receipt for your taxes. HA HA HA
