I'm so behind on my updates!
Sorry peanut gallery, but I've been so busy getting into the swing of things with student teaching, the new schedule, the new version of "homework," and the idea that I'm graduating in 111 days that I've completely ignored other pursuits. OHMYGOD. 111 days.
I'm in the same 2nd/3rd grade dual language class I interned in my first semester of the teaching program. I love it! The teacher is great, the kids are great, and so far so good. Of course, it's only been one week. HA HA HA. So the way this works is that I observed the class for about a week, getting to know the routine, letting the kids get used to me, etc. Next week I start "taking over" a content area, one per week, until I am in charge and teaching all day, all content areas. That means I act as the official teacher - grading, lesson planning, class management, the whole enchilada. I start giving the teacher back her class one or two weeks before the end of my semester. I'm trying not to freak out about it, but it's overwhelming.
I start taking over math next week, and I'll be teaching the 3rd graders division. Now before you go thinkin' that sounds like a piece of cake... I have to teach in both English AND Spanish. How the heck do you say division, divisor and dividend in Spanish?! Exactly. And that is what the issue will be with all the content areas. I will have to learn the content and then teach it in both languages!
And really what I should be doing right now is working on that, not playing around on the computer. Thank god for long weekends. Ok, so what else? Bonnie is great, it's been cold here (but it's in 60s today), I've lost about 65 lbs since the surgery, and I need a watch. If I still worked at FM I would probably buy myself one of those fancy schmancy Tag Hauer watches or something. Somewhere I have an old Mickey Mouse watch though, and I'll wear that one. Those are cool anyhow. Hope I can find it! What else.... OH! I have a lead on a piano teacher, so I maybe I can finally start taking lessons again! Yay!
That's about it for now... will try to keep up and not let so much time go by between updates. So much happens in class too that is funny, and I don't mean about the kids. I won't be breaking any confidentiality codes on here! I meant funny things I do as I learn to teach, and I'll be sure to fill you in. Till then...
