I´m Home

Monterrey. Home. And another day off for resting and regrouping. Ahhhhhhhh. I´m sitting at my tía´s computer, looking out the huge window at the mountains, enjoying the cool air and the fact that I don´t have to go anywhere or do anything. I woke up late, had some quesadillas con aquacate y salsa verde for breakfast (YUM-O!). I have my diet coke and I´m ready to update you, my dear peanut gallery, if you still exist.

Yesterday morning I went to see Ballet Folklorico de México. It was ¡fantástico! It´s two hours of dancing and music from the different regions of México past and present. La Danza del Venado is a native dance representing the deer hunt and it is one of the most incredible things I´ve ever seen. And the finales at the intermission and at the end are just spectacular... Mariachis and costumes and La Bamba and La Negra and Guadalajara... I LOVE MARIACHIS!!! Seriously, I want to marry one. Con bigote y que toca la guitarra. Anyhow, sometimes this show travels to the U.S. GO SEE IT.

I arrived in Monterrey and was welcomed by mi tía Wicha, mi primo Memo, y mis sobrinas Marcela y Midori. I don´t think there is any possible way to describe how it feels to arrive home. We went first to la casa de los Maradiagas where I got to see Manuel, Yuri, Meli, Luis, Jessica, Alana, Federico... comímos tacos, charlamos, y Midori y Marcela showed me around their gorgeous new home. I´ll be staying there during all the festivities. Just gorgeous.

I am home.

Ok, so Teotihuacán. The pyramid of the sun is about 200 feet tall, impossibly steep, and I climbed the sonnofabitch! It was worth it though because the view of this ancient city from atop this sacred site is other-worldly. (I´m running out of adjectives. HA.) The inhabitants of Teotihuacán built their city, rose to power, and disappeared before the Aztecs showed up in Tenochtitlán. I have some great pictures... You´ll have to stay tuned. Actually, you should just go and experience it for yourself. And try not to look at all the obsidian and silver artifacts the vendedores are trying to sell... if you look you´ll buy because it´s all gorgeous. I was good.

After all that exercise Mauricio and I were pretty hungry, all we had eaten was some jícama con limón y chile during the ride there. He took me to a little place in Mexico City called El Venadito for barbacoa y carnitas. I apologize in advance to my kosher friends for once again I ate pork. Hell, I ate fried pork rinds! Lo siento, but they are damned good! Con limón y chile? ¡Híjole que bárbara! And the barbacoa de borrego (lamb) was one of the most delicious things I´ve ever eaten. Con tortillas de maíz, guacamole, y salsa borracha... Oh my god, so many reasons to love México!! Thank god for lap band surgery or else... ha ha ha ha.

And now we´re current. Still enjoying the view, still enjoying my diet coke, still enjoying my day off. I have my alone time with my tía before the craziness starts, y me siento muy feliz y contenta. Hasta luego.
