Where do they go?

I've made peace with the fact that socks and underwear sometimes disappear. It happens some where between the basket, washer, and dryer. No one knows why, but we all know it happens. Maybe a gym sock, unhappy with it's sweaty partner, sees a cute little argyle and they decide to make some time behind the washer. I'm partial to grandma underwear, so I'm thinking they just slink away in shame. Who knows. But when two steak knives disappear...? Seriously? How does that happen? Where could they go? Maybe canoodling with the spoons? I checked; they're no where. It's just weird.
